On February 25th, the 2024 Academic Degree Conferment Ceremony was held at both the Seoul and Cheonan campuses of Sangmyung University. The Seoul campus ceremony took place in the morning, while the Cheonan campus ceremony was held in the afternoon.
Graduation Ceremony Proceedings President’s Address
At the Seoul campus, a total of 1,221 students received their degrees, including 989 bachelor's degree recipients, 106 master's degree recipients, 92 doctoral degree recipients, and 34 credit-based degree recipients. Also, at the Cheonan campus, 988 graduates received their bachelor's degrees in the gymnasium of the Gye-dang Hall. During this ceremony, several prestigious awards were given, including the Gye-dang Award to Go Yeong-ran from the Department of Management Engineering, the President’s Award to Lee Jeong-hyang from the Communication Design major, and the sm-IN Core Competency Excellence Award to Nam Taek-gwon from the Department of Human-Intelligent Robotics Engineering.
The order of the ceremony included the opening speech, national anthem, academic report, presidential address, award presentations (for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees), congratulatory songs, diploma presentation, and the university anthem.
President’s Address
In his presidential address, Sangmyung University President Hong Seong-tae encouraged the graduates with the following words: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the parents who have shown unwavering support and care for both Sangmyung University and our graduates. As they step into society, I hope their future will be filled with blessings. May they become the shining faces of Sangmyung University through growth that aligns with the changing times."
Graduates' Remarks
The graduates of Sangmyung University met during the ceremony, shared their thoughts and expressed their excitement for the new beginning ahead. A graduate from the Department of Nursing, A, said, “It didn’t feel real that I was graduating, but after receiving my degree today, it finally hit me. I could never have made it this far without the help of my professors and peers. I’ll continue to work hard to become a good nurse based on the experiences I gained here.”
B, a graduate from the Department of Film and Video, shared, “During my university years, I learned so much while planning and shooting numerous projects. There were many difficult moments, but I think I’ll miss the times when we stayed up all night editing together with my peers.”
The graduation ceremony is not just the moment of finishing academic work, but a starting point for new challenges and growth. For individuals, it represents the fruit of past efforts and the beginning of a new journey, while for society, it is a meaningful event where capable individuals ready to contribute to various fields are presented. The graduates of Sangmyung University today will go beyond academic achievement and become influential leaders, making positive contributions to society.
